The Phillips Companies is celebrating 125 years of quality and service.  YES, 125 years ago, Phillips began operating on the Morris Canal.  Edward Phillips would bring in clipper ships with lumber and barges with cement & brick. His sons, Edwin and Everett, would transport the building materials throughout New Jersey via horse-drawn wagons.  When the youngest son Francis joined the business, Phillips was already a leader and one of the first ready mix concrete manufacturers in the state of New Jersey.  Being the first doesn’t always mean being the best, but in our case, we made the concrete industry what it is today!  Edwin Phillips was the first president of the New Jersey Ready Mix Concrete Association, and helped to set industry standards by shifting concrete specifications from a per sack mix to p.s.i. strength.  He was also one of the founders of the New Jersey Citizens Highway Commission which later became what we know today as the New Jersey Alliance for Action.
